0ur opinion: :Askenase's recordings are almost all Chopin, so this superbly played Mozart from 1951 is a wonderful discovery. Backhaus made an excellent recording of the Schumann Concertos, but this live performance from 1963 is still worth hearing for its spontaneous poetry near the end of his great career. The Ney Beethoven (1956) is turgid and the recorded quality is thick and dull. The Brahms Concertos has its moments but overall doesn't flow the way it should. This odd memorial to ...
