Home for Christmas»rank: 9675by: Adolphe-Charles Adam, Alice-Charlotte Tegner, Goran Danielsson, Svante Henryson, Jakob Lindberg, Jan Bengston, Ulf Farsberg, Torbjorn Helander, Jansson, Ulrika, Rondin, Mats
0ur opinion: :Christmas albums by opera divas hardly make an exalted genre. Usually they involve overblown arrangements, hackneyed material, and singers sight-reading music they don't particularly like and making lame attempts at singing in English. With all her integrity, Anne Sofie von 0tter would never do such a thing, and she hasn't here. This disc is a personal, eclectic mix, with the mezzo-soprano sounding sincere and approachable by sticking to the lower end of her range using small-ensemble arrangements you might hear in an evening sitting around the fire. ...

Murray Perahia Plays Bach»rank: 99096from: Sony
0ur opinion: :After playing and conducting Bach's concertos for solo keyboard, Perahia now turns his attention to a pair of similarly scored concertos which involve a couple of excellent colleagues. Except for instrument purists who insist on harpsichords and other period instruments, no Bach lover is likely to have any trouble with the sound of these performances. They are lucidly and expressively played, and every important line is clearly audible. After his rather aggessive approach to the solo concertos, Perahia and his colleagues sound surprisingly sedate in these performances, ...
